These habits can cause students to procrastinate automatically, without even thinking about it. Sometimes students set aside time with the intention of completing their work, but end up distracted with other things. These distractions can be external Facebook, text messages, etc. Either way, this results in them spending time that had been budgeted for their work in other ways.
When an assignment seems very complex or time-consuming, even thinking about it can seem scary and stressful. So, students often fall into the trap of putting it off. Unfortunately, this ultimately backfires when they eventually do start the project… because now the inherent difficulty of the project is compounded by the fact that they have insufficient time to complete it.
So, they end up with far MORE stress than they would have had if they had started earlier. This can lead to the seemingly irrational behavior of avoiding the project even more as the deadline approaches because they become less and less likely to be able to do a good job on it … until, at last, they are so close to the deadline that producing an ideal assignment is no longer possible, and their only options are to do an imperfect job or turn in nothing at all.
Recent studies have suggested that procrastination is less of problem with time management than we had once believed, and more of a difficulty with emotional regulation. Procrastination becomes their way of resisting this authority.

Is homework taking forever? Well, I've been a homework procrestinator during my whole time as a student. I'm now in my last school year and it can be really hard to motivate myself because I'm always worrying about the future. I think that what we really should change is the school system. Children are under constant pressure, often feeling they're "not good enough". Some teachers can contribute to this problem by letting the child think that it just isn't smart enough for the tasks.
Besides, as far as I know of, homework is not very effective. And it's also not fair because some kids have parents who can help them while others don't.

I've resolved to let my child discover for herself what I've been trying to tell her for so long. That procrastination causes her to lose sleep, make her tired and cranky, and a bad grade.
I think she is okay with being tired and cranky, but she hasn't received a bad grade yet on her last minute attempts. So, she hasn't seen a need to change. Based on this article, I may have to change my tactic and be proactive as her dad has suggested because her procrastination affects me. She doesn't ask for my help and most times doesn't need it, but I can't sleep knowing she's still working late into the night to complete an assignment.
But I must admit, I am a procrastinator as well. How can I help her if I'm not a good role model? I need to change as well. A big Thanks to Tamar chansky ph. This is a very great article. I'm a tutor and I think from my point of view we need to Motivate Child to Learn.

Ask about what he's learning in school, not about his grades or test scores. Great info Evelyn W. Minnick, That's right, I agree with your opinion. We must Encourage our kids to perform better.
